Gagasi 99.5 ended the back to school campaign on a very high note with a visit to different schools across the province. The station’s flagship CSI campaign included the schools’ visits element for the first time this year which saw the station embarking on a roadshow giving uniforms to learners in three schools.
The campaign started with its traditional phase where the station invited learners to send in their individual requests for their school needs. About 38 learners were awarded school fees, uniforms and stationery at the hand-over ceremony held at Gagasi 99.5 offices on 21 January 2011.
The station then embarked on schools visits tour where the station visited schools from 26 to 28 January 2011 where uniform vouchers were handed out to learners of the schools visited. The three schools visited are Mqhakama High School in Highflats near Port Shepstone, Ndundulu Primary School in Melmoth and Silethukukhanya High School in ST Lucia near Mtubatuba. The contributions to these schools were sponsored by TVI Express and the Spokesperson for the Department of Intelligence Brian Dube which he made on his personal capacity.
Gagasi 99.5 Managing Director Chris Meyiwa said he is very happy with the growth of this campaign and the way in which it brings the station closer to communities. “It was the first time we took the station to schools with this campaign this year and the feedback is quite amazing. Such initiatives also open your eyes in terms of how much difference you can make if the will is there and I’m glad that as a station we made that little difference,” said Meyiwa.
Meyiwa also extended his gratitude to the campaign sponsors for realizing the importance of the initiative which was also supported by Ilanga. He said that with the support they have started getting, he hopes that they will be able to help more learners in the future.
