In high school I was very involved in the arts mainly theatre productions and had hoped to pursue a career in the arts. I intended to study Sound Engineering. It wasn't to be, the folks disagreed as they thought a career in the arts meant a life of poverty. I went on to study Mechanical Engineering which I never did finish.
I took a leap of faith and did a very short course in radio broadcasting. This in turn opened many doors for me. I joined a community radio station and in-between that, I volunteered at SK Multi-Media, where I learnt a lot about sound engineering. I also, through my gathered experience, became responsible for grooming new talent at the radio station and was also part of the marketing committee.
In 2009 I joined Gagasi99.5fm I must say it was dreams come true. Besides radio, I became involved in film and television production, the first major ones were Mr. Bones2 and Bay of Plenty a drama series based in Durban. My credibility got beefed up and I started to get calls from Rapid Blue to do gigs such as So You Think You Can Dance and S.A's got Talent.
In 2008 I had the opportunity to join a nonprofit organisation called South African Young Voices Network. I started off as a trainee on their Young Women's Participation Project Women Can Do It programme funded and co-facilitated by The Norwegians Peoples Aid. This was a programmes aimed at empowering women of all ages across world and also increase and encourage them to take part in decision making in their communities. I went on to become Chairlady of the committee. In 2010 I was chosen to become one of the facilitators of the programme, training and empowering women from all over Africa.
Quirky Question
If you were a famous male movie star – what time of movies would you star in?
I would star in the time of the movies "Sunset Boulevard (1950)" and "Some like it hot (1959)" the prime time of director Billy Wilder, who directed both these movies. The actors in these movies are exceptional, the characters and actors had so much life, and were very versatile. They were also pioneers of the genre. This was also a ground breaking time for television and film.
