Minenhle Nxumalo
Full Name:
Minenhle Silindelo.

Surname:
Nxumalo.

Place of birth:
Durban.

Who would play you in a movie:
Juno in Juno.

Role model/s:
Beyonce (I know it sounds clichéd).

Pet Peeves:
Reckless Drivers on the road, my alarm clock when it goes off. People who blast their radios in the early hours of the morning for the whole block of flats to hear!

Bad habit/s:
Digging my nose (I’m serious), hogging onto things that I no longer need, never sticking to time, procrastinating.

Good habit/s:
I pray at least once a day. I always have breakfast in the morning. I always wear my seatbelt. I always check my blind spots when driving.

Favourite food:
Mutton curry with phuthu.

Favourite holiday destination:
Davos-Switzerland (only in winter though).

Favourite movie:
Juno.

Favourite car:
Audi A3.

Favourite song and why:
Ringo: Xolelele. I love how his voice sounds very sincere on that song as if he is really asking for forgiveness.

Favourite hangout spot:
Madlula’s lounge-Pietermaritzburg.

Things you can't live without:
T.V, radio, my camera, a pen and paper.

Worst job you’ve ever had:
Promoting Knorrox eShoprite Checkers-Pinetown.

Any secret talents:
I can ice skate and ski and I speak a bit of German.

What scares you more, roller coasters or thunderstorms:
Thunderstorms.

Chocolate or vanilla:
Chocolate

Suburbs or township and why:
Township, lived all my life in Kwa Mashu and enjoyed how every neighbour was a friend, if my mother forgot to leave the key behind I was more then welcome to wait at my neighbour’s home and I would be fed. In a suburb if you are stranded, nobody gives.

Would you rather be good looking and doff or smart and ugly, why:
Good looking and doff. Good looking people always get the best jobs and the ugly ones stay at the bottom and pass all their smart ideas to good looking people who then take credit for the ugly ones thinking. Life is harsh like that.

Most embarrassing moment - on or off air or both:
When I was at DYR (5 years ago), Brown Dash was in the studio but I couldn’t recognise that it was him, so I said to him, “You look familiar, konje where do I know you from?”

Who would you like to host at a dinner party and why:
Beyonce. Because I’d like to find out how she does all that she puts her mind to without giving up along the way.

Who would you bring back from the dead and why:
My late friend and colleague Asanda Ncula- Asanda was everything that I wished I could be; confident, driven but most of all she loved herself and her life. When she passed on it felt like she had been robbed of her life.

Any other interesting information about yourself:
None.

Why radio:
I love music, but more than music what I like about radio is how it connects you with so many people, the interaction between yourself and the people- you cannot see each other but yet you connect. I love the fact that it’s live, it challenges to stay informed and aware of your surroundings. It’s the best thing under the sun!
